The Ellensburg FF’s Association originated as a result of the Town’s famous 4th of July City Fire in 1889. The Ellensburg FF’s joined the International Association of Fire Fighters in 1969 with 18 members.
Today we have 26 Union Fire Fighters. We provide Structural and Wild land fire fighting, ALS/BLS emergency care, transport and High angle rescue. The response area for fire is 260 sq. miles and EMS and Rescue services encompass approximately 1,200 sq. miles. The Members serve approximately 40,000 citizens.
The Ellensburg Fire Fighters Assoc. are proud members of Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue, which covers all of the City of Ellensburg, WA and Kittitas County Fire District #2. The two organizations consolidated in 2007. In 2010 Kittitas Valley Fire and Rescue responded to over 3, 000 Fire and medical related calls.
The members of IAFF Local #1758 work from 2 staffed stations with a minimum of 5 career staff on duty 24 hours day/7 days a week. The members work a 3 platoon (Modified Detroit) work schedule.
The members of IAFF Local #1758 donate too many charities such as Police and Fire Christmas Basket, 4th of July Life Support Pancake Breakfast and Veterans Day Barbeque Lunch for all Veterans and their families. Members also donate their time to many youth groups and public education.
KVFR Fire Fighters are proud members of the WA. State Council of Fire Fighters, and give to such organizations as the Muscular Dystrophy Assoc., Leukemia Lymphoma Foundation, and American Cancer Society.
